Lexicon by NoFit State Circus.

LEXICON, NoFit State’s new tented show directed by Firenza Guidi, will join the Spotlight UK Circus cohort to present at festival OFF d’Avignon in 2018.

NoFit State is one of the few contemporary circus companies that still travel and live the traditional circus lifestyle together in caravans. NoFit State was founded in the 1980s in Cardiff, Wales, by a group of friends who shared a similar vision for life and their role within society. Where circus is historically bonded by family ties, we are united by our work and our passion for the circus arts.

Lexicon is the coming together of the new and old languages of circus and the creation of a new voice for NoFit State.

As part of Circus250 (a UK-wide celebration of 250 years of circus in 2018), NoFit State and Firenza Guidi are creating LEXICON – a daring, seductive and utterly contemporary take on circus for a seated audience in the round. Drawing inspiration from circus history, heritage and traditions we are excavating underground memories and celebrating the past, present and future of circus.

‘NoFit State… exudes an enticingly musky scent of vagabond glamour’ The New York Times

‘Pioneers of contemporary circus’ The Telegraph

‘NoFit State maintains its reputation as a 21st-century descendent of true sweat and sawdust circus’ The Guardian

  • ‘Subcase is an annual showcase of contemporary circus presenting mostly Nordic work. It’s a perfect opportunity to rub shoulders in a more personal and intimate way with international presenters and Nordic circus artists, in order to find new markets and co-producers as well as to exchange knowledge and experiences. The attending presenters are mostly from Europe, US and Canada but also some from Asia and South America.’

Kiki Muukkonen, Artistic Programming Director Subcase
  • ‘Thanks to this collaboration between CIRCa, NoFit State Circus and Crying Out Loud, British circus will be present at the 30th edition of the CIRCa festival du cirque actuel, which showcases the upcoming circus trends every year in Auch. For the past 10 years, there has been an exceptional renewal of the art form in Europe. We are proud to present the best contemporary artists, those who speak the universal language of contemporary circus, whose work is not defined by borders.’

    Marc Fouilland, CIRCa Director
  • ‘Spotlight UK Circus is an excellent new opportunity for UK based circus artists to improve their financial resilience and develop professionally by performing their work overseas on new platforms.
